Along the way we walk through beautiful villages with the distinctive white-washed houses. In the meantime, we will stop at panoramic view points and we will pass by small private churches. Most of the route is stone-paved, other parts are just a dirt track. The hike takes around 3 hours depending on walking pace and how many breaks you need.

REDISCOVER CIVILIZATION OFF-THE-BEATEN-PATH

After the pick-up, we start our hiking tour at Imerovigli heading up to Skaros. Skaros was one of the five fortified settlements and the most important one. The fortress was the first Kasteli of the island, constructed during the 15th century in order to offer protection to the locals from pirates, it was densely built and occupied by the Catholic aristocracy. The “rock” was inhabited in medieval times but today, Skaros rock is totally uninhabited.

Only a few ruins are left from the formerly numerous dwellings but even now, the view of the imposing rock formation hints to its’ power and importance during the years of prosperity. Your private tour to the “Skaros Rock”, an impressive Santorini monument, starts from Imerovigli, the highest village on the cliff side. Imerovigli is known as “the balcony to the Aegean” and mostly famous for its beautiful sunset. The houses are built on the Caldera and we find many meandering narrow, paved paths. On our way up to Skaros you will witness the remains of the buildings and the cave-houses (hyposkafa) that surrounded it in the past. We will return to Fira on foot where we will drink the famous Greek iced coffee “Frappé”.
